[Social Practice Program] This Social Practice, studio art, course gives students from all disciplines the opportunity to gain first-hand experience using Intermedia art as a collaborative platform for exploring issues related to the American prison system. In collaboration with The Arts In Prison Program, a non- profit organization designed to help prisoners change their lives through study in the arts and humanities, students from KCAI will collaborate with prisoners on the creation of an Intermedia Art Project that will be publically exhibited in Kansas City. The course is broken up into three primary sections. During the first Four weeks of the semester, KCAI students will learn about prison issues through readings, discussion, and research. Then, for the next eight weeks, students will meet with inmates in a local prison to collaborate on the development and execution of a project together.
