Description

[Social Practice Program] As contemporary artists making still and moving imagery, how do we find wonder in this image-saturated world? What does it mean for us to use the camera as a tool for exploration and how do we contend with exploration’s complicated history and mythology? In this course, students will interrogate the role of the explorer and use that position, as well as their cameras, to engage, investigate, and respond. They will select sites for exploration ranging from the public to the personal and investigate those environments through a lens of personal identity and cultural history.

This course is intended for juniors with any level of photographic experience. The objective of this course is to give students a historical, conceptual, and technical understanding of photography while asking them to utilize a variety of contemporary image-making practices.
