Description

NOTE: For Painting majors, elective instructor cannot be the same as studio instructor.

This class will encourage students to extend their definitions of drawing, what it could be and what it can do for them in their practice. Designed as a hybrid class, we will explore drawing both as a preliminary process and as a means to an end in itself. We will consider a multitude of processes and tools in a drawing practice – Drawing with pencil or ink or string, drawing with light and shadow or sound, drawing with movement and memory, drawing on paper or on the street, drawing to record, drawing to translate. Drawing to notate, drawing to explore. Drawing is about seeing. Drawing is the most immediate form of conjuring. Drawing starts a design process. Drawing explores form and composition. Drawing is _______. Sharing diverse backgrounds and methods, the instructors offer a wide range of contexts to support the invention of a drawing practice for students.
