Description

This course is designed to further perceptual drawing skills for intermediate to advanced students of life drawing. Students will work on-site, creating a series of long-term indirect drawings from the sculpture collection in the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art. Students will work on a series of hand-toned surfaces prepared to take a variety of charcoals and chalks. A shared emphasis will be on structural anatomy, the indirect development of light, underlying abstractions of the bounded image and the integration of iconographic and historical structures of authored form within in the drawing. Advanced students will have the option of working with oil paint in the museum during the second half of the semester. Weekly homework assignments will include a series of drapery studies, master studies and additional work on-site in the museum.
