Description

Occupied Space is a drawing elective intent on the study
of the figure in space. Working with a sometimes-nude model, students will be
investigating the relationship a body has to the space it occupies. Students will be
working two-dimensionally and attempting to navigate the complex conversations that
are intrinsic to illusionistic space. Discussions will surround conventions of pictorial
space including in-depth investigations into psychological, allegorical, observational,
and constructed spaces and their relation to drawing. Architecture--especially as it
relates to the human form--will be an area of focus, as well as concepts related to
exterior and interior, public and private spaces. Questioning what is subject and
deconstructing the hierarchy of positive and negative space in drawing will become
regular exercises of this course. At the conclusion of Occupied Space, students are
