Description

A reading-intensive course focused on the evolution of the fairy taleβ€”its historicity, psychology, cultural distinctions, and narrative significance. Oral tradition versus literary tradition. Contemporary retellings in art, cinema, and literature. Weekly reading comprehension exams. Research paper, 18-20 pages. Average weekly reading load: 50 pp. Required text: Lawrence Weschler, Mr. Wilson’s Cabinet of Wonder: Pronged Ants, Horned Humans, Mice on Toast, and Other Marvels of Jurassic Technology.
