Description

[G/C; Asian Studies minor] An iconic example of Japanese culture is learning to write with a brush. Japanese character writing skills will be explored with both the pen and calligraphy brush. Students will learn to recognize the different scripts using ancient and modern resources from scrolls to manga and advertising. Students will also learn to write Hiragana, Katakana, and select Kanji in the three classic styles of Japanese calligraphy: Kaisho (regular), Gyosho (semi-cursive) and Sosho (cursive). Japanese language skills are not a requirement.
