Description

[Social Practice minor; Sound minor] This course explores the cultural, social and political environment in Kansas City that fostered the development of a unique style of jazz from the 1920s through the 1940s. The development of Kansas City jazz is cast against historical events such as Prohibition, the Great Depression and World War II. The growth of Kansas City jazz style from ragtime to bebop is traced using sound recordings and videos.
