This survey course traces the origins and contributions of the early pioneers that established animation as both a thriving art form and commercial industry during the first half of the 20th century. Students will be guided through an immersive introduction to gain a comprehensive overview of animation history through 1960. The goal of the course is to fuse engagement and scholarship with personal and professional artistic development through awareness of lineage. Course structure: lecture, screenings, and discussion.
