Description

[Social Practice minor] This lecture/discussion course will introduce students to a wide variety of collaborative artistic practices, and help students build relationships in the local community to further their own socially engaged artistic practice. The course will be built around a series of visits (in person and online) by local, regional, and national/international artists, curators, and cultural organizers who engage substantively with others as a major component of their creative practice. Alongside these visits, we will read and discuss critical theoretical texts that help to illuminate various aspects of collaboration in social practice. We will also take field trips to nonprofit organizations that partner with KCAI faculty or alumni, in order to better understand the local ecosystem for engagement.
