Living: a Manifesto will explore the topic of the manifesto in order to engender works that carry personal and political urgency. Manifestos are public statements of ideals and intentions. The ones we study will be those that challenge the status quo and promote new ideas and invocations for action or change. Out of an impetus to engage with contemporary issues, students will write a manifesto of their own that will serve as the wellspring for their drawing or agitprop works. Initially, the manifestos will be private and act as a personal guide to creating work that exemplifies the principles in their manifesto. Regular critique and discussion will reveal successful visual communication of the tenets of the text. Weekly manifesto reading assignments will provide insight into broad examples of radical thinking and political movements. The history of types of media us
