Description
Fiber Properties is a class designed to teach about the characteristics and usage of natural and man-made textile fibers. The focus of this class is a close examination of the molecular arrangement, chemical composition and physical structure of fibers with an animal, plant or man-made origin. Simultaneously we will study various fabrication methods with a special emphasis on yarn construction and the process of knitting. Whenever possible, actual samples will be available for inspection and importance will be on hands-on experiments to increase understanding and stimulate ideas. Fieldtrips compliment the theory discussed in class and establish a connection between theory and practice.
