Description
As visual artists we come with a host of material knowledge that can enhance our abilities to communicate with our audience. This course will explore the histories, associations, and content of art-making materials and how they may convey studentsβ social experiences through storytelling amidst this tumultuous time. Clay will be the central material of the course. There will be an emphasis on hand modeling techniques, from additive and reductive sculpting to coil building and slab construction. Surface decorating techniques will also be included in instruction, from color to textural surfaces utilizing underglaze, slips, and glazes. Prior experience with ceramic materials is not required to enroll in the course.
