Description
[G/C; Renaissance/Baroque] This course examines the artistic production of the Iberian world, globally understood (Spain, Portugal, and the Americas) between 1492-1800. It addresses topics such as imperialism, colonialism, and Christian evangelization. Moreover, it discusses the artistic and commercial intersections between Europe, the Americas, and Asia. Besides studying the work of renowned masters of the Spanish Golden Age—such as Velázquez, Zurbarán, Ribera, and Murillo—, this course focuses on the artistic production of marginalized groups, including those with Indigenous and African ancestry, as well as women.
