Description

[Ancient/Medieval] We examine the art and architecture of Pompeii, Herculaneum, and nearby villas. Special attention is paid to the art of the elite: its style and quality and how it reflects political, economic, and cultural forces. We also consider the politics of public art; the power and meaning of myths portrayed in domestic wall painting; and the reinforcement of gender roles through art in both the public and private spheres.
